She stepped up to the guard. "I understand you are guarding my father, Nor-Con. I wish to visit with him."
The guard stood there, unmoved.Tercona frowned. Did you not hear me, Guardsman? I said I wish to see Nor-Con now."
The guard's eyes flicked down to look at her. In a voice that resembled two stones grating against each other, he said, "No, your Highness. I have my orders."
Tercona blinked. I have my orders? She stood straighter, looked the guard in the eye, and channeled every ounce of attitude she'd seen her mother use.
"How dare you speak to me that way. I am Princess Tercona, daughter of Queen Medea and heir to the throne! My very words carry the weight of this kingdom. Now step aside and let me see my father, or you shall feel the wrath of the throne." She did not raise her hand, but the tips of her fingers began to glow blue. The guard didn't notice.
The guard stood there for a moment under this barrage of words, staring straight ahead, not daring to meet her gaze. When she finished, the pause hung between them, pregnant with possibilities. Then, as she watched, the guard swallowed hard and sidestepped to his left and out of her way. Without saying a word he reached over and opened cell door.
She nodded at the guard. "See that we are not disturbed."
"Yes, your Highness."
"Escape From Badacore 3"
One day, my mother went too far. On that day, I made the choice to do something that changed the course of my life… forever.

Tercona told the guard with a heavy heart, “I’m sorry I have to leave you here. My father and I must go.”
As they ran toward the hall the guard sat in the corner and pondered his fate.
Tercona glanced back, just for a moment, to see the guard hang his head in shame. She felt bad for him. He looked scared. She showed him mercy but her mother would surly take her frustrations out on him as soon as she found out he let the prisoners escape. His fate was sealed.
Her father shouted at her to get her attention, “TERCONA!”
She suddenly realized what she was doing, letting her anger get the best of her.
She refused to follow in her mothers footsteps and be like her.
The guard was in shock. He didn't know that the princess had the same powers as the queen.
The chains Tercona put around his body were tight. She could see he was in a lot of pain. As he struggled to break free he said, “You are just like the queen…you…”
Not allowing him to finish Tercona glared at him and said, “I may have my mother’s powers but I am nothing like her.”
As the guard fell to the floor, completely powerless by the chains that bound him, she knelt down to him and said,” My mother would have killed you.”
She then took a deep breath and continued, “I’m sorry for hurting you.”
The guard was taken aback by the apology.
Nor-con signaled to his daughter that they had to leave. “He will be fine. Come on, we must go get your brother now.”
This time, Tercona’s reflexes were faster! She wasted no time using her powers again. Only this time, she was fast. She materialized a chain that wrapped around the guard so fast he didn’t know what hit him.
She then slammed him against the wall over and over. “You put my father in a cell? I’ll show you."
The guard outside the cell heard a “spark”. A sound that was very familiar to him. It was a sound he had heard the Queen make. Was the Queen in there too? He peeked around the corner to see what was going on. To his surprise, the chains that bound the king had been broken! But how?
He then saw that the princess was helping her father escape. He started to run down the hall screaming for help, “The prisoner is escaping. Alert the queen.”
“You taught me well father. I’m glad I read those old books from your home planet. Otherwise, I would have never have thought of this.”
“I see you are much more creative than your mother.”
Tercona used the plasma cutter to break her dad’s chains and set him free.
For the first time in public, Tercona used her powers.
Blue lightening appeared out of her thumb and 2 fingers. At the end of those bolts a plasma cutter slowly formed. When it was fully formed and operational she smiled, “Wow, that felt good!”
Her father praised her, “That was great. But a little slow. Don’t worry, faster constructs will come. It’s something we can work on later.”
“She had her reasons.”
“Now is not the time.”
“If not now then when?” Tercona’s frustration increased the more she talked about it, "She’s gone too far this time!”
“Tercona, you know she wasn’t always like this.”
Tercona sighed, “I know.”
“You were just a child. Most of the natives of this planet don’t remember that time because their lifespan is so short.”
Tercona shook her head, “That was a long time ago.”
“Yes, it was. There is a special power she had once. Having this unique power is what made her change. Even though she doesn’t have it now, the purple people of this plant are still convinced she does. Today I made sure she would never get that power again.”
Tecona was filled with curiosity, “What did you do?”
“It’s not what I did. It’s what I wouldn’t do. That is why she put me here.”
Tercona looked shocked, “You wouldn’t heal her?”
His smile changed to despair, “I don’t think now is the time to continue this conversation.”
Tercona could tell he was hiding something else. It was clear she wasn't going to find out now.
“Ok, come on. We’re leaving!”
“Leaving?” he rattled his chains a little to remind her, “I can’t.”
Tercona looked around for a key and saw it on the belt of the guard waiting out in the hallway. What should she do?
Nor-con said with despair, “Tercona listen. Let’s say for a moment that you do break me out of here, then what? Where are we going to go? No matter where we hide on this planet your mother will find us.”
Tercona took a deep breath and then told her father with such serious determination, “Then we leave the planet. I just haven’t figured out how yet.”
Nor-con confessed, “You’re right. The moment to act is now. What if I told you I know of a way to get me, you and your brother off the planet? A new planet – a new home - away from the corruption of your mother.”
Tercona's curiosity peeked, “Go on…”
“One problem at atimefirst.” Nor-con said as he rattled his chains.
Tercona looked at her fingers. “I can take care of that.” Nor-con knew what she was about to do, “Tercona, focus. Whatever you’re trying to make, concentrate and envision it. You have the same power as your mother. You can do this.”
Tercona saw her dad, helpless in shackles, sleeping on a bench. “Father, FATHER…wake up!” She shook him to try and jar him awake. As his eyes began to open he managed a slight smile.
“Tercona? What are you doing here?”
“I’m getting you out. I can’t believe my mother put you in a cell!”
Tercona saw her dad, helpless in shackles, sleeping on a bench. “Father, FATHER…wake up!” She shook him to try and jar him awake.
As his eyes began to open he managed a slight smile.
Very early one morning, unbeknownst to her mother, Tercona went to the cell where her dad was being held.
As I grew up my mother became consumed with power and control. Her rule was law. She had her special powers to enforce her rules. To disobey her meant a harsh punishment.
My mother and I share the same gift. Only nobody knew I was just like her. I never used my powers in public. My dad always said, there is a right time for everything. As I look back now I see all the lives I could have saved, but didn’t.
